frequently asked questions

What teams do you field during the season and where do they compete?
Xceleration Volleyball Club currently has 12 teams from ages 12 through 18. Ten teams compete in the Northern California Volleyball Association’s (NCVA) Power League and our 12Blue and 13White teams play in the NCVA’s Premier League. Tournament play includes approximately five weekends for the NCVA league and tournament play, and three or four weekends for national or qualifier tournaments for our competitive power teams. Our 12Blue and 13White teams will also have opportunities to participate in the qualifier tournaments. NCVA tournaments are held throughout Northern and Central California. The national tournaments take place at various locations and will usually require travel on Thursdays to begin play or Mondays at the end of the competition.

How long does the season run?
The season runs from late November through the end of May, with other teams to the beginning of July.

When and where are practices held?
Depending on the age group, our teams practice 2-3 times per week and are held in Martinez at 360 Ferry Street. Practice and Tournament Schedules, with details on each age group, including times and locations for the current season are being finalized and will be posted on each team page.

Who will be my daughter’s coaches?
We are proud of our coaching staff that has a tremendous amount of volleyball coaching experience at all levels. Click Staff for more information on the coaches that will lead each team.

How much will it cost to participate during the season?
Depending on the age group and the travel that is involved, costs for Power League teams generally range from $3,800 to $5,500 for club dues per season, which will cover coaching fees and expenses, facility rentals, NCVA entry fees, uniforms and accessories, administrative expenses, and equipment. Further, major tournaments or qualifiers will incur additional costs, such as tournament fees, coaches’ travel and accommodations, player’s transportation and lodging expenses, among others. Each travel tournament has fixed costs and each player is responsible for her share of the costs, even if the player does not attend the tournament. There are no exceptions. Fees and installment payments are discussed during the Parents Meeting on the day of tryouts and on Signing Night. Fees for Premier League teams are charged at a lower rate.

Do you have a refund policy?
Xceleration’s fees are based on the number of players participating at the beginning of the year and they are not variable. If a player no longer plays with her team and decides to leave during the season, the costs are not prorated. Therefore, there are absolutely no refunds.

What is the purpose of a Pre-Tryout Clinics/Sunday Open Gyms?
These clinics are led by coaches from our current staff and will combine skills drills with light competition. The clinics provide an opportunity for players and parents to meet our coaches, and likewise an opportunity for them to meet you. As with our clinics in all past seasons, the clinics will be fast-paced, instructional, and structured to benefit all who attend. They are also beneficial in allowing athletes to prepare for tryouts and for parents to learn more about the club and the specific age-group coaches.

Do I need to register with the NCVA prior to registering for tryouts?
Yes, all players will need to register with the NCVA for a tryout membership or full membership for each season. NCVA registration opens September 1. Visit our Tryouts Information page to learn the tryout procedures, including how to obtain an NCVA membership number. You will need this NCVA number at tryouts or to register online.

Do I need to bring any paperwork to the tryouts?
If you pre-register for the tryouts through our online registration system, you do not need to bring paperwork aside from the NCVA card that you will need to print out. If you are unable to pre-register online and would like to do a walk-up registration, please see an Xceleration representative onsite at tryouts to help you with registration.

What time should I show up to the tryout?
Please arrive no later than 30 to 45 minutes prior to your designated tryout time. Please see an Xceleration representative at the check-in table to get your numbered t-shirt to complete the registration process. The check-in table will be open at least 60 minutes before each tryout session.

Will you have a Parents Meeting?
Yes, there will be a mandatory Parents Meeting at the beginning of each tryout session, while athletes are trying out, to get information about the club, Signing Night details, and the club season in general. At least one parent (or guardian) from each participant must attend. The Xceleration staff will also be available to answer any questions that you may have about the club

How many players do you carry on each team?
In general, most teams will have no more than 12 athletes.

What happens after tryouts?
Offers can, and will, be made at tryouts. Coaches will all be available at the conclusion of an age group tryout. If a player or parent wants to speak to them they should remain in the gym as coaches will speak to all who care to wait. Sometimes it is impossible for the coaches to speak to all players at a tryout so our coaches will also make phone calls to potential players on each team beginning immediately after the tryout has concluded. For younger teams (14 and under) the coach will always ask to speak to a parent.

In any case where a player accepts an offer to play for Xceleration, the coach will ask to speak to a parent to confirm this.

Please be patient! Every season we are still making phone calls to players well into the week after tryouts to fill all our teams. If you want to play for Xceleration and have not heard from a coach by Wednesday morning, please e-mail Club Director Leslie Ray to get an update on your status. We understand that making the team on a club can be stressful to players. We will do our best to contact each player as soon as feasibly possible.
The Xceleration website will be updated daily after tryouts to indicate the number of commitments and open spots remaining on each team.

How can the club help me continue playing volleyball at the collegiate level?
Xceleration has a College Development Program that is a FREE service to all its members. There are workshops scheduled each year that will explain the recruiting process in detail and help players get started in exploring their academic and athletic opportunities in college. Click on College Development Program for more information.

Does the name of the club affect my chances of playing in college?
Plain and simple, no. If you can play, the coaches will find you no matter where you play or what court you are playing on at a tournament. However, it DOES help if someone is helping to get them to your court, and that is where our College Development team assists our athletes at tournaments.
